[Orange represents local art organizations]
The premise of this project was to create an Arts Institution that members of our community had access to.
Communities will be connected through art, by the everyday interactions within the classroom setting. With classes offered for younger children to older members within the community, there is a possibility for interactions across a wide range of age groups. This center for the arts focuses heavily on community connections, and aims to offer a variety of programs.
It is critical to be conscious about the lighting conditions of the adjacent lots when looking at this project proposal. To minimize the impact of shadows on the surrounding community, a series of day lighting studies were conducted and analyzed to create a building form that minimizes the disruption of natural day lighting to the surrounding area.
Matthias Baldwin Park is one of the only public green spaces within the immediate area. Maintaining a high quality of natural daylight within this space is important; the goal of this proposal is intended to not affect the individual experience within this adjacent green-space. A series of sun studies were conducted to design this new arts institute within the constraints of the Winter Solstice, since the sun is at its lowest point during this time of the year.
